đź‘• About the shirt:
The 1997–98 Newell’s Old Boys long sleeve home shirt features the club’s famous red and black checkerboard design, finished with adidas Three Stripes on the sleeves and the five-star crest. This is the era when a young Lionel Messi was coming through the Newell’s academy in Rosario. Having joined the club’s youth system at the age of seven, little Leo starred for “La Máquina del ’87”, the legendary youth side named after the players’ birth year, which dominated Argentine youth football. He reportedly scored close to 500 goals for Newell’s before leaving for Barcelona in 2000. The academy teams of that time wore this same iconic checkered design, as seen in the photo of a young Messi with his teammates. A rare long sleeve piece that connects you to the very beginning of the greatest player of all time.
