Home shirt as worn when financial difficulties off the field hindered the club, leading to a 15th place finish in the Premiership. A lot was expected of manager Terry Venables due to his previous success with Tottenham and Barcelona. However, financial problems at the club meant star players Rio Ferdinand and Robbie Keane were sold before the start of the season. Despite losing key players, Leeds started well with back to back wins over Newcastle and Manchester United put the side top of the table after 6 games.
